Independent living community for adults with developmental disabilities opens in the Triangle
11/30/2009

The Serving Cup in partnership with The Arc of North Carolina and Lutheran Family Services in the Carolinas will celebrate the grand opening of their newest independent living community for adults with developmental disabilities, Green Level Homes, with a dedication ceremony held December 3, 2009.

Funded through HUD § 811, NCHFA Supportive Housing Program, Town of Cary CDBG funds, County of Wake HOME funds and the State of North Carolina, Green Level Homes consists of six newly built two-bedroom apartments created to provide practical solutions to achieve independent living and economic empowerment for adults with developmental disabilities.

“It is a chance to get out on my own. It is a chance to experience real life,” says John Lamp who will soon be a resident of Green Level Homes. “It will change me for the better. I will be able to hang out and do things with people my own age.”

John’s father Roger is especially thankful for the skills his son will acquire. “This opportunity means my son will go out and experience life apart from living here with us and can experience a different life with people his age. He will gain more street smarts and learn to deal with others.”

Supportive services are offered through the Wake County Human Services Developmental Disabilities Services network of endorsed providers. The project's proximity to an adjacent shopping center will allow residents to walk to the grocery store, the drug store, banks, shops and restaurants. Life skills training will provide a smooth transition to successful independent living for residents.

The dedication ceremony will be held at Green Level Homes, 14000 Joshua Tree Court, Cary, NC 27519 on Thursday, December 03, 2009 at 11 a.m.
