LFS Carolinas welcomes Advancement Associates in two regions
5/17/2010

Lutheran Family Services in the Carolinas (LFS Carolinas) welcomes Courtney McDuffie and Michael Handy to the agency as Advancement Associates for South Carolina and the Greater Charlotte region of North Carolina respectively.

As Advancement Associates, McDuffie and Handy will work to build relationships with donors and LFS supporters as well as work to cultivate new relationships with potential donors in their areas. They will both work closely with churches and surrounding communities to ensure all those connected with LFS feel a sense of ownership within the organization.

McDuffie joins LFS after working with other non-profits such as City Year, Volunteers of America Carolinas, Crisis Ministries, Big Brothers Big Sisters and the Girls Scouts of South Carolina – Mountains to Midlands. During her tenure with these organizations she built stronger fundraising programs focusing on donor relations, key fundraising events and community awareness campaigns.

A graduate of the University of South Carolina's Masters of Public Administration Non Profit Management program, McDuffie is originally from Indiana, but is proud to call South Carolina her home now.

Handy comes to LFS following an eight-year career as a television news reporter, including nearly five years at WBTV in Charlotte. Handy left WBTV in October 2009 to pursue a new career in public relations, marketing and development.

He spent the past seven months as a volunteer at Trinity Episcopal School, Urban Ministry Center and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Animal Care & Control working on various communications and advancement projects.

Handy is a Charlotte native who graduated from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a double major in Broadcast Media and Political Science.

Please join us in welcoming them to our team!

LFS Carolinas has served the Carolinas’ most vulnerable people since 1976. The agency grew from the roots of Lutheran Orphanage of the South, founded in 1888 in Salem, Virginia. As a social ministry organization of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, we respond to Christ’s call to serve all people, regardless of race, national origin, orientation, religion or creed.

LFS Carolinas provides safe haven for children in crisis, adults with special needs, refugees, and individuals and families at risk of becoming homeless or struggling to recover from disaster. Local program sites are coordinated from offices in Raleigh, Greensboro, and Charlotte, N.C., and Columbia, S.C.
