Hundreds of thousands of children throughout the world share a simple dream – to have a family to call their own. LFS Carolinas helps families living throughout North Carolina adopt children from the foster care system in North Carolina and many other states.
LFS Carolinas helps families through the adoption process by providing the following services:
- Information sessions about the realities and benefits of adopting children
- Parent preparation training for prospective adoptive families
- Pre-placement assessment (home study) services to prepare families to welcome an adoptive child or children into their homes
- Matching services that help to identify the best possible fit between families and children and decrease the chance of future separation
- Liaison between family and placing agency
- Post-placement supervision to offer continued support and guidance to families
- Adoption finalization services to assist adoptive families in achieving permanency with their adoptive child or children
- Post adoption support and referral to additional services in the community
Special Needs Adoption Program SNAP
The LFS Carolinas Special Needs Adoption Program (SNAP) helps identify loving adoptive families for children in the foster care system with special needs.
In North Carolina, Special Needs refers to a child that belongs to one or more of these groups:
- School age or older
- Sibling group
- Child of color
- Emotional, behavioral, developmental or learning needs
- Medical needs
Note: All children will not belong to each of these groups
Prospective parents must meet the following requirements:
- Be at least 25 years of age
- May be working or stay at home parents
- May be married or single, however married couples must have been together at least two years
- Rent or own their home
- Be financially stable
- Be able to provide a healthy, loving and nurturing home for a child
