LFS Carolinas Immigration Services offers low-cost, high quality legal services to refugees, asylees, and other members of the immigrant community. The immigration program is recognized by the Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA) and is staffed by an attorney and BIA Accredited Representatives. We represent clients in applications for Family Reunification, Adjustment of Status (Green Card), Naturalization/Citizenship, Travel Documents, Employment Authorization, Temporary Protected Status, Replacement of Documents, Applications for Asylum and Fiancé (e) Petitions. Other immigration assistance is available on a case-by-case basis. Nominal fees are charged for services; however, fee waivers are available for those who qualify.
Family Reunification
The Immigration Services Program represents United States citizens and Lawful Permanent Residents in applying for permanent visas for eligible family members living abroad. If you have a family member who you would like to join you in living the United States please contact us to schedule an appointment so that we can screen you for eligibility and discuss the fees and procedures.
Refugee/Asylee Family Reunification
While escaping their homeland to flee persecution, many refugees and asylees are forced to separate from their families. LFS represents clients with federal immigration benefits applications leading to family reunification including initial screening, client intake, application representation, filing motions to reopen and appeals and responding to requests for evidence.
Refugees and asylees may apply for their spouse, and unmarried children who are under age 21 within the first two years of their arrival in the United States as a refugee or grant of asylum status. It is important that this strict deadline is met; however, we do provide assistance with requesting humanitarian waivers of the deadline for clients who have missed the deadline with good cause. Please contact us so that we can screen you for eligibility and schedule you with an appointment.
Adjustment of Status (Green Card)
Obtaining permanent resident status for our clients increases family reunification options, allows for retention of benefits, increases civic responsibility and brings immigrants one step closer to American citizenship.
LFS works with community partners to ensure that refugees and asylees throughout North Carolina are aware of the requirements for adjustment of status and the resources available to them as they apply for federal immigration benefits. BIA accredited staff members screen clients for eligibility for adjustment of status, provide comprehensive immigration case management and represent clients filing green card applications.
Clients must call to set up an appointment. Family based adjustment of status services are also available for those who qualify. Please call us to schedule a consultation if you believe you might be eligible for a green card through your family member.
Naturalization
Through grants from United States Citizenship and Immigration Services and the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services we are able to provide intensive citizenship counseling services to immigrants in North Carolina.
We offer an array of other services please give call us so that we can determine how we can best help you.
Immigration Services Program Policies
The Immigration Services Program serves a high volume of clients. The following policies allow us to better serve you:
All services are provided on an appointment basis. We do not have the staffing levels to effectively serve walk-in clients. Due to our schedules we are frequently with clients and are therefore unable to provide services on a walk-in basis. Please call us to set up an initial appointment.
We are not able to answer the phone if we are with clients. Therefore, it is often necessary for you to leave a message and wait for us to return your call. Phone calls are returned within 2-3 days. Please leave one message and wait for a response.
If you are a current client who we have requested further documentation from you may drop off documents Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:30 AM and 5:00 PM
Immigration law is a complex matter. The information on this website is for informational purposes only and should not be construed as legal advice. Each individual’s case is different. Please contact us so that we can determine your eligibility.
Only attorneys and BIA Accredited Representatives should assist you with your immigration case. If someone who is not an attorney or BIA Accredited Representative assists you with your case that person is putting you at risk and are exposing them self to prosecution for the unlawful practice of law.
