Co-Sponsorship & Volunteering

LFS Carolinas works with local faith organizations, student groups, and concerned individuals to help refugee families transition to life in the United States. Generally, co-sponsors are asked to make a six-month commitment to assist refugees with core services, which include:

  • Welcome refugees at the airport to help foster a positive arrival experience
  • Help to set up an apartment for newly arriving refugees
  • Provide assistance with integration into American culture (i.e. learning to shop at the grocery store, use post office, ride buses, etc.)
  • Provide transportation to appointments
  • Assist with ESL classes or tutoring
  • Help with job readiness (i.e. resume writing, interview preparation, etc.)
  • Emotional Support

Those individuals who are not able to co-sponsor are encouraged to explore volunteer opportunities with LFS.  These opportunities include:

  • English Tutoring
  • Translation support
  • Mentoring
  • Employment development
  • Office administrative support
  • Apartment set-up for newly arriving refugees
